Teacher Spotlight - Cat Wilson
Posted on
At the Power of Yoga Studio (Greenhill, Sheffield), we really do have the best team of teachers.
Our teacher spotlight this month is Cat Wilson, one of our long-standing teachers at the studio.

Name: Cat Wilson (nee Cousins)
How long have you been practising Yoga: Since 2019
Qualifications, training & specialisms:
I studied a 200 hour Registered Yoga School Yoga Alliance training with Janine Leagh, founder of Sacred Alchemy Yoga and HYA Yoga School in Australia.
What inspired you to start yoga?
Knowing that practising yoga always made me feel better, and wanting to pass that on to others.
How did your journey lead you to become a yoga teacher?
I loved going to yoga classes, especially vinyasa flow. My sister did her yoga teacher training and gave me the confidence to know I could do it too. I started the training just as we went into lockdown.
What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
This is a hard one! I love the upward-facing dog for the release of the abdominal muscles and the pigeon pose for the juicy hip flexor stretch.
What pose you find most challenging (and how you approach it)?
Gomukasana (cow face pose) I don’t have the shoulder flexibility for my hands to join behind my back in this pose so I use a strap.
What do you hope students take away from your classes?
An overall feeling of calm and gratitude to themselves for giving themselves an hour on the mat. A feeling that they have worked the body and the mind.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
“Let go”
What’s your favorite ritual before or after teaching?
Before teaching I have something light to eat like a banana or some walnuts and a herbal tea. I like to scent the room with Made by Coopers Calm spray. After yoga, if it’s an evening class, I like a relaxing bath with massage oil in it.
How has yoga impacted your life off the mat?
I try to approach every situation with a calmer, more balanced mind. It doesn’t always work! But using breathing techniques really does help. Yoga has introduced me to so many new people and taken me to different places.
What does “Power of Yoga” mean to you?
A beautiful sanctuary in which to guide others in my love of yoga
One piece of advice for someone new to yoga?
Yoga is for everybody, we’re human, we will wobble, stumble but just embrace that and after a little while of regular yoga you will see and feels the benefits.
Fun Extras from Cat
Favourite post yoga snack - if it’s a morning class - yogurt, oats and fruit or crumpets / sourdough bread toast and peanut butter and a decaf coffee
Evening class, then a light meal, maybe an omelette …if it’s a Friday night, then definitely wine too!
Song that makes you feel grounded: Deva Premal - Yemaya Assesu
What a lovely insight to Cat! She teaches two of our popular classes, Strength & Serenity, Flow & Yoga Fusion.
If you are ready to start your yoga journey or find your "happy place", we are here with open arms to welcome you at the Power of Yoga Studio—the little gem, in the heart of Greenhill, Sheffield.
